Days after the PBA Commissioner’s Cup opened last Friday, two teams has already notched two wins, while this conference’s defending champions fell down with two losses.
We are talking about Barako Bull Energy Colas who delivered a blow to import-less SanMig Coffee Mixers last Friday night. The game proved to be a close one even the Mixers were playing all-Filipino that time against players formerly one of their own, namely Josh Urbiztondo and Jonas Villanueva. The Energy Colas won their first game with score 76-71 and their second game 98-88 via overtime against GlobalPort Batang Pier.
The Alaska Aces also acquired two wins to their team this conference. They beat the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and their 7-ft-3-in import Bruno Sundov, the tallest this conference, via the heroics made by Cyrus Baguio and Calvin Abueva in the fourth quarter. They won in an 83-81 come from behind victory to upset the last conference’s final’s runner-up. The Aces also won big over the Meralco Bolts yesterday with their import Robert Dozier vastly improving even against another impressive import Eric Dawson. Dozier posted the game-high 27 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks helping his team win with the score 85-81.
The Commissioner’s Cup defending champions SanMig Coffee Mixers failed to reacquire the services of last year’s Best Import Denzel Bowles and they are now down 0-2 after losing to Petron Blaze Boosters. Matt Rogers of the Mixers, after missing the first game due to food poisoning, debuted against Petron but was dominated by the Booster’s Renaldo Balkman. The Mixers were trailed by 21 at the end of the first half and eventually lost the game with the Boosters up 98-73.
