National University Lady Bulldogs dethrones the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles to emerge as the new champions of the Shakey’s V-League Season X First Conference.
The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of the three service errors committed by the Lady Eagles in the fourth set to close out the game three sets to one, 25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 26-24 and crowning themselves the new Shakey’s V-League champions.
Best Setter of the conference Rubie de Leon took the Most Valuable Player award of the Finals series as she spread the ball completely on the floor, also scoring via a drop on the fourth set to tie the game at 24-all.
Dindin Santiago, finished with 17 hits, including 15 kills, while Myla Pablo, Carmina Aganon and De Leon chipped in 13 hits apiece. The younger of NU’s twin towers, Jaja Santiago, added 12 points including three blocks.
The NU Lady Bulldogs though being the champions, did not receive the Shakey’s V-League Trophy after it was broken before the awarding ceremonies. Some claimed that the trophy was not really for them, but the results show that they are the rightful recipients of the trophy.
In the battle for Bronze, the UST Golden Tigresses defeated the Adamson Lady Falcons even without their guest player Aiza Maizo. The Golden Tigresses clinched the third spot in four sets, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 25-16.
In Maizo’s absence, Pamela Lastimosa, Maika Ortiz and Carmela Tunay stepped up scoring 19, 16 and 12 hits, respectively.
