The Season 74 Finals contenders are yet to face each other again in UAAP Season 75 Women’s Volleyball Finals.
The De La Salle University Lady Spikers and the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles will be having a Finals Rematch this season after winning against their Semifinals contenders. The DLSU Lady Spikers finished off their opponent NU Lady Bulldogs in the first game, while the ADMU Lady Eagles defeated the AdU Lady Falcons.
With some 14,500 spectators in attendance at the Big Dome, the DLSU Lady Spikers blasted the NU Lady Bulldogs in an emphatic game winning three straight sets 25-18, 25-23, 25-18. Four Lady Spikers scored double digits namely, Ara Galang with 15 points, Mika Reyes with 14, Abi Marano with 11 and Michele Gumabao with 10 points. The DLSU squad also scored 6 points off service aces, much greater as compared to the NU squad with only 2 service aces. Dindin Santiago paced the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points off 16 hits and three blocks but did not get enough support from her teammates.
The ADMU Lady Eagles manages to win against AdU Lady Falcons even in a very close match on the second game last Saturday, February 23. Each set seems to follow a pattern: the AdU team will start with a lead, ADMU will recover, the game will be tied, at times with one or two deficits and then, ADMU will finish the set. Aillyse Nacachi played as a starter that semifinal game one, a scenario which the AdU squad may have not expected. Shiela Pineda, the league’s best server surprisingly is nowhere to be found as she committed a lot of service errors for her team. The ADMU won three straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 26-24 with Alyssa Valdez as the best player of the game with 22 points.
The DLSU Lady Spikers and the ADMU Lady Eagles will again battle for the championship and renew their rivalry in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament. The Finals Game 1 is scheduled on Saturday, March 2 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
